Inspired by Nature, Created by Doctor’s
Doctor’s Lawn and Landscape is among the trusted landscape contractors in Kansas City, Missouri and the Lake of the Ozarks, working with homeowners who expect more than a basic installation. The focus is on creating outdoor spaces that not only look right but also function the way you need them to and continue to perform over time. This is about building something that fits your property and your lifestyle, not forcing a standard solution onto it.
Properties across Kansas City, MO and the Lake of the Ozarks vary widely, from established neighborhoods to lakefront homes with steep grades, rocky soil, and changing conditions. That local experience shapes how each project is planned. Plant selections, materials, and layout decisions are made with long-term performance in mind so your landscape holds up season after season.
Each project begins with a clear understanding of your goals and how you want to use your space. From there, the process stays organized, with steady communication and a team that remains involved from start to finish. The result is a landscape that feels cohesive, functions as intended, and reflects the investment you made into your property.
Why Homeowners Choose Doctor’s Lawn and Landscape
Hiring landscape contractors is about more than getting the work done. It is about trusting the process, the people, and the outcome.
-
One Team Managing Your Project From Concept Through Completion
Instead of being passed between departments, your designer remains involved from the beginning through installation. That continuity keeps the vision intact and avoids the confusion that often comes with multiple handoffs.
It also means better communication, faster decisions, and a finished result that matches what was originally discussed.
-
Craftsmanship That Holds Up Over Time, Not Just on Day One
Every project is built with long-term performance in mind. Materials are selected carefully, installation practices follow proven methods, and preparation work is done correctly even when it is not visible.
From proper base work under patios to plant selection that accounts for growth and seasonal changes, the focus is on durability and consistency.
That attention to detail protects your investment and keeps your property looking right well into the future.
-
A Personalized Experience Built Around How You Want to Use Your Space
No two properties or clients are the same, and the process reflects that. Communication, design decisions, and project pacing are adjusted based on your preferences and how involved you want to be.
Some clients want frequent updates and collaboration, while others prefer a streamlined experience with minimal back and forth. That flexibility creates a smoother experience and a final result that fits your lifestyle.
Our History
Founded in 1986 by Bruce Doctor, Doctor’s Lawn and Landscape grew from humble beginnings into one of the most recognized landscape companies serving Kansas City and the Lake of the Ozarks. Long before the company officially launched, Bruce was mowing neighborhood lawns with a mower purchased with help from his Great Aunt Mae. What began as a small lawn service steadily expanded through hard work, referrals, and a commitment to doing quality work the right way.
As the company grew, so did its capabilities. Doctor’s Lawn and Landscape evolved into a full-service landscape company offering landscape design, installation, maintenance, irrigation, outdoor lighting, seasonal color, and outdoor living construction. From the beginning, the focus was never simply on growth. The goal was to build a company known for craftsmanship, professionalism, strong client relationships, and a consistent experience throughout every stage of a project.
In 2004, Doctor’s Lawn and Landscape expanded to the Lake of the Ozarks after recognizing a growing need for dependable landscaping services and a quality garden center in the area. That vision developed into a full nursery and garden center that now serves both homeowners and contractors with plant material, bulk products, gardening supplies, and experienced guidance tailored to the unique conditions found around the lake.
Today, Doctor’s Lawn and Landscape serves high-end residential properties throughout the Kansas City metro and the Lake of the Ozarks. The company has earned recognition for its landscape design, installation practices, and attention to detail, while continuing to invest heavily in training, team development, and proven installation methods that support long-term performance.
More than 30 years later, Doctor’s Lawn and Landscape remains a family business built on relationships, trust, and consistency. Many clients have worked with the company for years, and many team members have built long-term careers within the organization. That long-standing loyalty reflects the culture Bruce and the team continue to build today, one centered on taking care of people, maintaining high standards, and creating outdoor spaces designed to improve the way clients live and experience their homes.
See What It Looks Like When the Process Works
Homeowners consistently mention professionalism, communication, and the quality of the finished work. Many clients return for additional services because they trust the team and appreciate the attention given to their property.
A Clear Process That Keeps Your Project Moving Forward
Starting a landscape project should feel organized and straightforward. A clear process removes confusion and helps you understand what happens next.
Doctor's Lawn and Landscape follows a step by step approach that keeps you informed and confident throughout your project.
Your process begins online by filling out a contact form with basic information about your project, property, scope of work, timeline, and budget. Once submitted, a Landscape Designer will contact you within 24 hours to discuss your goals, inspiration, problem areas, and the next steps in the process. If you’re looking for maintenance, irrigation, or seasonal services, your request is directed to the appropriate account manager right away.
Your designer or account manager will schedule an on-site consultation. While meeting face to face is ideal, you are not required to be present.
For second homeowners at the lake or clients with limited availability, a site visit can be completed independently. Your designer will take measurements, gather photos, review space functionality, and identify opportunities and constraints to begin the design process.
A design fee is collected if your project requires a design, to begin the process and details are confirmed before moving forward.
If your project does not require a design, your proposal is typically delivered in less than two weeks. If a design is required, you can expect your design and pricing within 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the size and complexity of your project.
During this phase, materials, layout, and scope are carefully developed to match your goals and your investment range.
Your design presentation can be scheduled at your home, at the office, or via video conference. Together, you review the design, walk through pricing, and discuss warranty coverage. Any adjustments are handled at this stage so you feel confident before moving forward.
Once approved, your project moves into scheduling with a clear plan and no unanswered questions.
Project timelines depend on scope and seasonality. Typically, installation begins 4 to 8 weeks after approval, though smaller projects may begin sooner.
Before work begins, your team conducts an internal pre-construction meeting to review design details, materials, logistics, and site considerations. This ensures every detail is covered before crews arrive.
You receive communication about scheduling updates so you’re not caught off guard. Your designer remains your main point of contact throughout the entire process.
Before work begins, your designer and production manager review the project together to confirm every detail. The crew walks the site and gets started. You will be introduced to your production manager, field supervisor, and crew when possible. You will typically have the same crew throughout your project for consistency.
Your site is cleaned up daily. Equipment is organized, and your property is respected throughout the build. The production manager visits regularly, and your designer checks in to keep everything moving smoothly.
As your project wraps up, your designer, production manager, or field supervisor walks the property to confirm every detail reflects the original plan.
You will also receive practical care guides tailored to your installation so you know how to water, maintain, and protect your investment. Instead of wondering what to do next, you have clear direction.
If your property falls within the maintenance service area and capacity is available, you can be introduced to an Account Manager to discuss ongoing care. That way, the landscape you just invested in continues to look and perform the way it was designed to.
